Another 15 million in grants for EU project
Posted: February 11, 2010
In a short period of time the European CBRNE Center has again been granted EU funding to coordinate a large EU research project. This time 15 million Swedish kronor will be used for the project CBRNEmap. CBRNEmap is a road map study for future demonstrator calls dealing with methods and tools for handling large scale CBRNE terrorism, e.g. chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive substances.
During the road map study partners from the academy, industry and state authorities will collaborate and analyze strengths and weaknesses within the system of crisis management. The work will result in an agenda for development of new methods and technologies to improve the preparedness and ability to handle incidents where CBRNE substances have deliberately been used against the population in an EU state. These improvements could be, for instance, improvement of methods for detection, tools for analyzes and medical procedures etc.
The two year long project is financed by the European Union, through the seventh framework program for research and development. The project includes fourteen partners and is planned to start in the spring of 2010.
- To identify the gaps within this field will not be easy, but both fun and exciting. It will also be very interesting to work in such a broad group where end-users, industry, stakeholders and scientist cooperate, says Agneta Plamboeck Hånell, Project Manager of CBRNEmap at the European CBRNE Center.
Agneta Hånell Plamboeck from the (FOI) will be managing the project together with Åke Sellström, European CBRNE Center. CBRNEmap will strengthen the region and the cooperation between the five partners of the Center: Umeå University (UmU), The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), The City of Umeå, Västerbotten County Council (VLL), The Swedish Fortification Agency (FortV).
